Gator Huntin' . . . & Snakes Too!

Ahhhhh, there's nothing like joining friends for a 4th of July celebration and 'gator huntin' at Brazos Bend State Park, TX.
Some campsites were a bit more elaborate than others, with an American flag, porch lights, outside refrigerator, outside TV, outside stereo/DVD, portable dog pen, portable yard, wind machines, etc, etc - even a water misting system strung between the trees which we all appreciated in the 105 degree heat!

These neighbors really had the 4th of July Spirit . . .
We got into the spirit of the holiday with a great outdoor gathering / meal
The eats and fellowship were goooooood . . .
We even had an honorary hot dog named Demi!
Folks cheered as the bicycle parade went by . . .
Oscar & Demi chilled in the shade on the portable yard . . . then Oscar reminded me he was here to hunt 'gators!

So off we went in search of "THE BIG ONE" Brazos Bend has a perfect habitat for alligators, as you can see. The Park Rangers say 300 adult 'gators roam among these giant lily pad looking plants.

We did see one splash way out there in the middle and swim away. From our vantage point, it looked as big as the Loch Ness Monster, Texas style.

Oscar wanted to stake out his territory and wait for one to dare show his long, teeth filled face. He kept saying "Here 'gator, 'gator, 'gator . . . come get puppy whooped!" Nobody took up the challenge. Oscar said all the 'gators were afraid " . . . 'cause they saw what I did to the stuffed alligator at home!" (OK, Oscar - if you say so)

After the 'gator-no-show Oscar went off in search of other fearsome foes. He went looking for snakes! Again, no one dared cross the path of "Mighty Dog." Sissy snakes.

With his head held high in triumph, Oscar retired to the Wonder Egg to write down today's exploits for his memoirs. Should be an interesting read someday . . .

Holy Smokes! Oscar is much more brave than I would have been around "gators". Muneca, Sister and Eddie are impressed as well.

Glad you got back in time for the BIG EVENT!!!

Holding Demi, the wiener dog, is the lovely Miss Denise, loving wife of Phil and mother of Katy & Cody.
