Miller Creek RV Resort

Well, here we are, pulling into the Miller Creek RV Resort, the most hospitable campsite we've found in all of our travels so far. What a great owner Paul is, making all guests feel like family.

Oscar picked out our site, as usual, and decided on the grassy area under the oak trees for our back yard.

Getting acquainted with the surrounding area, we found these pink flamingos hanging out at the local goldfish pond. You'd almost think they were metal statues, they stood so still . . . I told Oscar they were just trying not to scare the fish.

Unfortunately, the area is experiencing an "exceptional drought" and the Miller Creek is running kinda slow for the moment. Sad thing is they had to let the lifeguard go due to lack of swimming. Good thing is, Congress will make the job a part of the "stimulus package" and fund the position anyway, in case a few rain showers ever come along . . .

Friday night, Paul encouraged folks to bring on down a bit of steak for the grill. We did, and he provided all comers with the salad, bread, baked potatoes, and desert. Now THAT"S what I call Texas Hospitality!

Oscar was so stuffed after the "big feed" that I could hardly get him outta bed in the morning.

But when I told him the Underhill family arrived during the night and parked next door, he was up and raring to go.

Phil took Oscar to the windmill and explained all about water wells. The park has 4 wells going down about 275 feet in the ground.

Oscar made friends with Ron & Becky. When they showed him their fifth wheeler, Oscar was amazed that people actually traveled with trailers you had to take more than four steps to get from front to back . . . he said "OOOOOoooohhhhhhhh . . ."

He also befriended Ron & Jerry, whose fifth wheel sported 4oo watts of solar power compared to the Wonder Egg's 100 watts and they had an automatic leveling feature Oscar loved to watch.

Cody and Katey Underhill enjoyed hanging out with Oscar . . .

The Underwood family is one of Oscar's all time favorite camping families. They are out with their Casita just about every weekend building lasting memories. Isn't that what it's all about?

We look forward to returning the Miller Creek in a few weeks to join 35 other fiberglass trailers at the First Annual Miler Creek Hill-a-Palooza. Should be a blast . . .

Oscar's done it again . . .

He's at it again! I heard loud laughter coming from the dining room and upon investigating the source I came upon Oscar in one of his mischievous moods chuckling away. . .

After I asked him what he was up to, he simply yelled "Whoopee!" and ran downstairs where I found him perched on the bed. Before I could grill him anymore, he said -

"Look Pete, I've been talking to my canine buddies in the online chat rooms and telling them how worn out you were looking after all the work refinishing the deck out back. They told me not to waste any time, so I took matters into my own paws, called Phil Underwood, and made plans for us all to meet at the Miller Creek RV Resort in Johnson City next weekend. Don't worry, the reservations is already made. Chill out . . ."

I dashed to the computer and had an email from the Miller Creek RV Resort confirming our reservation. I don't know how he did it. What a great dog!!!

Looks like we're goin' CAMPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matagorda Madness

Oscar & I recently returned from a great time at a Fiberglass RV gathering on the coast of Texas!

We arrived at the rally point and Oscar chose the spot to park the Wonder Egg with all our friends . . .

Early the next morning, Oscar enjoyed running on the beachOscar reunited with a lot of his fur-buddies from the Bluebonnet Rally and got to meet some new pals. He was having a blast as we "adults" enjoyed sharing camping secrets, great food, laughs, and three great bonfires on the beach, which were way past Oscar's bedtime.

There was a delicious meal at a local dining establishment where we were the rowdiest bunch around. All in all, we were a lot of HAPPY CAMPERS! We even have pictures to prove it!

It was another fun rally of fiberglass campers. We're looking forward to many more . . .

Where in the World is Oscar?

Sorry for the late post, for those who happen to follow Oscar's adventures . . . he's safely back home in the Texas Hill Country, eagerly exploring every square inch of his back yard to see what changes have occurred since his departure. Here are a couple photo of our trip home:

I love the way the dark blue sky matches the colors on the Wonder Egg in this one! I told Oscar that we had it "a bit" easier than those intrepid families who dared to cross the western desert in their Conestoga wagon! Just about then, Oscar said "Whooa there, partner! Let's stop at this here stage coach station and check on the latest Comanche sightings."
So we pulled up to the Tunis Springs stage coach stop (a replica made from the original stones which used to be 1/4 mile away down at the large Comanche Indian camp) The kind folks at the stage coach stop gave Oscar a buffalo biscuit and assured him there were no more difficulties with Indian raiding parties like there were when the stage coach stop was in use back in 1879.

So . . . after 6 weeks and 5941 miles, Oscar and I have returned home. What a great trip! Our thanks go out to all who provided us with hospitality along the way, to our neighbors, Dan & Margaret, who took in the mail and watered the plants as we wandered along . . . and to Erika, Oscar's sister, who checked in to open the occasional snail-mail bill and inform me of the contents. What a great support system . . . thanks again to all.

Our next known trip will be for a few days in early December when we gather with other fiberglass RV campers at the Matagorda Madness rally, on Matagorda Island. Should be fun!

Arizona

We awoke early among the giant trees, packed up (ie. put dog in truck), and started a long push eastward. Along the way, we spent one night in Nevada where it was all I could do to keep Oscar away from the slot machines! The next morning we crossed over Hoover Dam into Arizona. The Wonder Egg seems to be enjoying the view of the Lake Mead side of the dam.

Traveling on down to Lake Havasu City, AZ to visit Roger & Pat, we took time to drop by the London Bridge (which is no longer falling down). Built in 1831, it was slowly sinking into the clay of the Thames River under its own immense weight. It was purchased by Robert McCulloch for $2.4 million and moved brick by brick all the way from jolly old England. Oscar insisted I drive the Wonder Egg across London Bridge twice while he hung his head out the window and whistled the famous nursery rhyme. Everybody stared . . . the world is his stage, he is such a ham . . .
The evening was pleasant and cool with a beautiful sunset on display over Lake Havasu.
The next day, Roger, Oscar & I took a trip down old Route 66 to visit Oatman, AZ. Along the way we passed Ed's Kamp and the Kactus Kaffe. I'm sure it saw better business before the interstate highway was built.
A quaint little town rich with western flavor, Oatman is renown for the donkeys visiting main street to eat carrots out of the hands of tourists. Anyone see a tourist around here?
